How many panels can I run and how big should the array be?

EG4’s spec lists 1,100 W rated PV for the 12k model. In practice, a common setup is 4 panels around 400–420 W in series, roughly 1.6–1.7 kW, which the unit will clip as needed. Always size strings so cold-day Voc stays below 380 V and array Isc stays below 12 A.

What PV input limits should I follow?

DC operating window is 90–380 VDC. Max PV open-circuit voltage is 380 V. Max PV short-circuit current is 12 A. Keep your array under these limits at cold-weather Voc and Isc.

Can it run solar-only, and what’s the minimum to start?

Yes. It can run on solar only during the day, using AC power at night or when clouds drop PV below the threshold. Minimum PV to start is 90 VDC. You can also enable an AC-Limiter mode to cap how much utility or generator power it uses when solar is present.

What is it and do I need an external charge controller or inverter?

This hybrid mini-split accepts DC directly from solar panels and can blend or fall back to AC power when needed. The unit has a built-in photovoltaic controller, so you do not need a separate charge controller or inverter for daytime solar operation.

Does it come with the wall bracket for the compressor?

No, these units do not come with the wall mounting bracket for the compressor.
