EG4 Systems Now Eligible for Eco Shift in Nova Scotia

Brandon Kummer |

Nova Scotia is paying homeowners to let smart devices help the grid during peak demand.  EG4 battery systems are now officially part of Eco Shift. If you already own an EG4 system, this is one of the easiest ways to earn real incentives without changing how you live. If you’re planning a system, Eco Shift is a nice bonus on top of the usual backup power and energy independence benefits.

What is Eco Shift?

Eco Shift is a demand response pilot from Efficiency Nova Scotia. When the grid is under heavy demand, Eco Shift can briefly adjust enrolled devices to reduce strain. For EG4 owners, that means your home battery may discharge during peak events to support grid stability.

Events are short, usually one to four hours, limited in number per season, and you get advance notice. You stay in control and can opt out of any event.

Note: Eco Shift cannot shut down or lock your device. It can make small adjustments during an event, which you can override or opt out of at any time. During events, your battery will not discharge below 20% state of charge.

Eligible EG4 battery storage systems

Incentives

You receive a one time $500 household enrolment incentive for enrolling a home battery.

You can also earn a participation incentive of $300 per kW annually, based on your average energy discharged hourly across all events in the season. The amount depends on things like your battery capacity, your state of charge at the start of each event, how many events occur, and your discharge rate.

To receive the participation incentive, your device must be successfully enrolled and participate in 50% or more of the scheduled demand response events from December 1 to February 28.

Who can participate?

You must be a Nova Scotia Power residential or commercial customer and the authorized account holder. Your EG4 system must be internet-connected, owned by you, and not already enrolled in another demand response program through Efficiency Nova Scotia.

How do I enroll?

Apply by completing the Eco Shift enrolment form here. During the application, you may be prompted to log into the device manufacturer’s app or account. You must complete that connection step to finish your application.

If you submitted your application but keep receiving requests to connect your device, it usually means the manufacturer account connection did not complete. Use the reconnection link and sign in to your device manufacturer account to link your device to Eco Shift. If the reconnection link expired, you may need to complete the application again and make sure the login connection is completed as the final step.

After you apply, you may receive a link to create an Efficiency Nova Scotia Homeowner account. It is optional, but it lets you see which devices you enrolled, how many events have been run, and update your communication preferences.

Incentive timing and payment

Approval can take up to 10 business days. Enrolment incentives are processed within 30 days of approval.

Participation incentives are typically issued in the spring after the demand response season. If you enrol additional eligible devices later, those incentives may be included in the spring payout or during a fall reconciliation.

Incentives are paid as a digital prepaid Mastercard through MyPrepaidCenter. You will receive a redemption code by email from ecoshift@clearesult.com.
